Facial paralysis results from an injury to the facial nerve (seventh cranial nerve). This complex nerve has multiple roles in the face. It’s responsible for facial expressions, motor function,  including speech, mastication, drinking, eating, and more. The facial Nerve is also involved in certain sensations such as taste, and tear production.  Therefore, injury to this nerve affects a patient's quality of life on many levels and lead to dreaded complications.
