Facial paralysis, also called facial palsy, results from an injury to the facial nerve (seventh cranial nerve). This complex nerve has multiple roles in the face. It’s responsible for facial expressions and motor function,  including speech, mastication, drinking, eating, and whistling. The facial Nerve is also involved in certain sensations such as taste, and tear production.  Therefore, injury to this nerve affects the face at many levels and can greatly impair a patient's quality of  life. Facial paralysis and asymmetry may result from various medical conditions such as :

- Bell’s Palsy

- Ramsay Hunt Syndrome

- Lyme disease

- Trauma

- Stroke

- Synkinesis

- Congenital deformities
